Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to us. Here's what we collect, why we need it and the control you have over it. No jargon, promise.

What we collect

• Your email address and Google account ID, from Google sign in, so your account stays yours and secure.
• Your profile, meaning the name and photo you choose. You can stay anonymous if you'd rather.
• Your location, so we can show you people, Addas and Buzz posts nearby. Other people only ever see a rough distance or the name of your area, never where exactly you are. You can say no, and Global mode will still work.
• Your messages, photos and voice notes, so we can deliver them and keep your conversations for you.
• Your Buzz posts, photos and replies. Other people see them without your name, but we know who posted them, so we can act on reports.
• Your interests, if you add them, so we can show you people you're likely to click with.
• Basic device and usage info, like a device ID and app activity, so we can keep Bakkar running smoothly and safely.

Your chats

• Messages are stored on our servers so your conversations are there whenever you open the app, on any phone you sign in on. They're encrypted on the way between your phone and our servers.
• When you delete a chat, it disappears from your side straight away. Once both people have deleted it, we erase the messages, photos and voice notes for good.
• You can delete a message you sent for both of you. We remove its text, photo or voice note, and the other person sees that a message was deleted.
• Adda messages, photos and voice notes stay in the Adda until the sender or an Adda admin deletes them, or the Adda is deleted.
• Buzz posts and their photos stay up until you delete them, or until they're removed after reports.
• We don't sell your chats or use them for ads. We only look at a conversation when we have to, for example to look into a report or when the law requires it.

How we use your information

• To run Bakkar: Discover, chats, Addas, Buzz and streaks.
• To keep the community safe through reports, blocks and bans.
• To let you know about new chats and messages, if you've turned notifications on.

Who we share it with

We never sell your personal data. We work with a small number of trusted providers, and only so we can run Bakkar for you: Google Cloud (hosting), MongoDB Atlas (database), Cloudinary (photos and voice notes), Google Firebase and Expo (notifications), Brevo (email) and Google Gemini (replies from AI dost profiles, which receive the messages you send those profiles).

Your choices

• Turn off location or notifications anytime in your phone settings.
• Block or report anyone from inside the app.
• Delete chats, your Buzz posts, photos and replies, and your Adda messages yourself, anytime.
• Delete your whole account from Profile, then Delete account.

Deleting your account

When you delete your account, we erase your profile, your chats (for both people in them), your Adda memberships and messages, your Buzz posts, photos, replies and votes, your blocks and the photos and voice notes you uploaded. It happens straight away and can't be undone. We keep reports other people made about your account, so we can keep the community safe. The delete account page explains how to ask us if you can't open the app.

Under 18?

Bakkar is only for adults aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger.
